Terra Communications specializes in arranging author book tours throughout North America with especially strong connections in the Northwest. We also work to ensure that each event gets the media and promotional support needed to ensure success. We’ve worked with many of the finest new and emerging authors in the country and have helped to secure significant literary accomplishments for them. Sometimes these achievements have been phenomenal. If you, as an author or publisher, are looking for book marketing support from Terra Communications then take a look at our services and rates listed below. If you decide you would like to work with us then please mail a copy of your book, galley, or manuscript, along with any other information you think might be helpful, to our ACQUISTIONS committee for consideration.
At the center of any book marketing campaign is a book tour and arranging them is our forte’. We will draft a schedule that makes sense for the author and the book, and then we’ll set up unique presentations with booksellers, libraries, and other venues geared toward generating increased sales and exposure. To make sure you get a good turn out, our media department will secure a variety of radio, TV, and print activities for each event. Finally, we will use creative methods to promote the author, book, and events through supplemental promotional outreach.
Our hourly rate is $185 on which our fee structure is based. For book tours we charge a flat fee of $185 for each confirmed event, then additional set fees for doing media and supplementary promotional support. All potential new clients get a FREE one-hour consultation to discuss our services and campaign strategies.
If you are an author contacting us directly, be sure to ask about our affordable package rates.
The components included for each book tour package include:
Events Design and Scheduling
- Up to one hour to discuss your book tour needs. We will figure out which cities, booksellers and venues would best suit your campaign.
- Up to one hour to outline the presentation you will use for your events. Generally, a simple reading and Q & A is no longer enough to encourage a significant attendance. We'll help design a unique and exciting presentation.
- Up to one hour to procure from the publisher (or author) all the collateral and promotion materials needed to support the campaign. A complete list of needed materials will be submitted to the client. If collateral materials are NOT already available and if Terra Com needs to help develop the needed materials then any time over and above this initial one-hour will be billed at the standard rate.
- A draft schedule of your proposed tour based on our discussions and expertise.
- A maximum of one hour to revise the draft tour based on client feedback. Any future or additional changes to the draft tour as a result of the client’s needs, suggestions, or requests will be billed at the standard hourly rate.
- The actual arranging and negotiating of each event.
- A confirmation notice emailed to the host bookseller/venue and client once all the details are confirmed.
- Distribution of an event press release to ALL relevant media in the area of the appearance.
Media
To ensure a worthwhile turn out for each event we generate “big” media activities. We charge a set fee of $185 per media event confirmed. There are no charges for our time spent on media that does not result in a confirmed event. Big media could include a book review, article, interview, or radio and television appearances. If there is strong interest from more than one large media option resulting from our follow up activities we will confirm these events as well if the client approves.
Supplementary Promotions
Supplementary promotions costs $185 per event but is not required, should the client choose to opt out. However, during the past eight years we have documented the fact that supplementary promotions for new and emerging authors has a significant, positive impact on book sales, event attendance, and increased name recognition. Supplementary promotions includes the creation and distribution of promotional materials including the design of a promotional poster, event flyer and postcards, In addition, we research topically related businesses and opportunities in the area of each event venue and coordinate with them to promote the event an book.

These set fees do not include out-of-pocket expenses incurred by Terra Communications on behalf of the client. These expenses would include such things as printing, telephone, and postage fees.

et fees do not include additional time needed to change or adjust the tour schedule based on the client’s desire for change, cancellations, or additions.
