Terra Press

In order to pursue our company's goal of supporting quality Northwest literature of new and emerging authors, we will begin publishing books in 2005. We understand how difficult it is to get that first book published to help a new author establish their publishing credentials. We will publish three to five books each year with an emphasis on literary fictions, quality popular fiction, and narrative non-fiction.

Terra Press is a hybrid, or collaborative, publishing house and we are committed to selecting only the finest quality manuscripts. We will produce a very limited number of books each year to ensure excellence in literature and to uphold our reputation. Our selections for 2005 have been finalized but we are currently accepting submissions for 2006.

As a hybrid publisher Terra Press will work with the author to create the best manuscript possible. We will design and produce books of merit and offer the most comprehensive and sophisticated book marketing in the Northwest. We will provide superior editing and manuscript development services. We will work with the best book production associates and generate multiple bids to guarantee the most cost-effective printing rates. We have established connections with wholesalers and distributor to ensure efficient fulfillment channels. Each project will be accompanied by a strategically designed marketing plan and web site design.

As a hybrid publisher we retain only a small percentage-5 to 10 percent-of your sales (as opposed to the 90 percent held by traditional publishers). All service and production costs are the responsibility of the author and are specific to each book. We are not a vanity press. We will not consider publishing anything but national quality literature that will launch an author' career and enhance the Terra Press reputation. Neither are we book production managers. Our name is on the final product and we insist on being involved with the project from manuscript development to layout, design, printing, fulfillment, then on to marketing, publicity, and setting up book tours.

Submission Guidelines

To preserve our reputation for excellence, we will only consider top quality work. We prefer fiction, especially literary or quality popular fiction. We are especially fond of stories set in the Northwest, strong "western" themes, women's fiction, historical fiction, and quality thrillers. We also accept narrative non-fiction, especially memoirs, travel and adventure related stories. Also, nature and environmental essays, biography and spiritual. We will consider young adult as well as other genres.

We do not accept children's literature, poetry, romance or other genre fiction. This is not meant to be disparaging but we feel it is easier to sell and we prefer to put our efforts behind genres that are more challenging to sell.

Please submit the first 20 pages of your manuscript along with a synopsis (maximum of two pages) or table of contents (non-fiction). Also include contact information, including an email address, and mention any works you've previously published along with future writing ideas. We do not work with writers who only plan to write/publish one book (regardless of who publishes it) since it isn't cost effective for the author to use our intense marketing model unless subsequent books are planned. If you want your submission returned you must include a self addressed, postage prepaid envelope. You will be notified via a brief email of our interest in your manuscript. If we reject your manuscript and you would like a detailed analysis (approximately two pages) of our decision, there will be a $75 fee for this service.

Thank you for considering Terra Press for your publishing needs.
